Oregon Camp 2009
Just got back from camp. Wow! It seems that every year gets better. This year was an extraordinary camp with many highlights. Ajarn Chai really gave all those who attended something to remember. The caliber and level of instruction was unmatched in recent history and there was so many to learn from and so much to learn. I am grateful every year not only for the knowlegde I glean but for the new friendships and old reunions of longtime friends. What is intended to be a Muay Thai training camp somehow becomes more and a family is formed through this event. I have now been to about 11 camps and each one has been a different and unique experience for me. It is impossible to summarize all of those experiences here. I do however wish that the TBA family would keep in more regular contact with each other and I am in hopes that the camp forum could be the place that we all gather and share stories, photos, videos and camp experiences. In past years I have neglected to take photos and somehow we always tell each other we will send our photos or videos later. I am afraid that many of my camp experiences are lost in the archives of my fond memories yet there is no physical reminder of each unique experience. I know that it has only been less than a week since the last camp and already it seems distant and far away. TBA family, please help to always keep these memories close for all of us by sharing in the forum. I believe if you have been to camp you have not only had a unique experience but have been a part of history. Let's all do our part to keep these memories and this history alive!

I wish I could of made it this year. I will be there next year for sure with gloves on!
Thanks for putting the pics up, I enjoyed them very much.... Looks like a great time as always.
I have been to a number of Ajarn Chai seminars and have always had a good time. He is big on respect but I found that from other Thai trainers as well. Address him as Sir if you don't like pushups.
You will get good knowledge from him and his supporting folks running the seminar. It is not all just banging away on the pads, some of it is tehnique, with and without a partner. He will hold the pads for people and do some little gags, his timing is great and he seems to be a bit of a prankster.
I would like to wish our very talented fighter Mark the best of luck at camp this year. He is going to camp for the first time in 2010 and is a very well rounded fighter in both Maui Thai and Jujitsu.

Thank you for teaching us new techniques and instilling Muay Thai fundamentals (foot work and guard) to all of us at camp this year. When Ajarn Chai asked Ajarn/Guru Dan Inosanto, Ajarn Greg Nelson and Ajarn Rex to say a few words to the newly promoted instructors on the last day of camp, that's when it all hit home to me that we're among a very special group of people.
When Ajarn Rex expressed his gratitude for Ajarn Chai and how much he has done to promote Muay Thai and his tearfull confession of his humble beginnings was the most memorable and emotional moment for me. Ajarn Rex said "When I first came to this country, I did everything, everything I could to help Muay Thai. Now, I look around and I see all these white guys. We dug a hole and planted a seed. Now that seed has grown and the tree is growing bigger, and my dream has come true." We sometimes take for granted the availability of all the martial arts we can study today. We're often not aware of the hardships our masters endured to bring their arts to us. I can't help but be amazed by our lineage of Masters, Senseis, Ajarns, Gurus and Sifus and their amazing stories, from humble beginnings in dingy, small spaces to their travels to faraway lands to bring the martial arts to us. With all that said, I want to thank all the instructors, old friends and new friends for making this past camp as my most memorable so far.
Very respectfully

Because of such pioneers as Ajarn Chai, Ajarn Rex, Ajarn Kim who dedicated their entire lives, to the noble cause of spreading Muay Thai, That I am practicing today. I am sooo thankful for the good fortune to be born in this time and to practice muay thai with such historical masters and have become friends with so many of my Muay Thai colleagues. It is truly a good life. I can never repay this huge debt of gratitude, except by passing on this art form and supporting our collective efforts to spread the teachings of Muay Thai just as I have been taught.
Thank you, all.
