Certification means quality.  It is proof that the instructor meets a minimum standard, and shows the difference between an experienced instructor who has devoted the time to develop themselves professionally--and someone who hasn't.  Who wants a coach whom isn't devoted, nor professional?

Every year the best Muay Thai talent in America, no, the best Muay Thai talent in the world gather in one place to share their knowledge. This year I had the honor to participate.

The legendary Pacific Northwest Muay Thai Camp is held together by the megalith that is Ajarn Surachai Sirisute.

The Thai Boxing Association's Annual Pacific Northwest Camp is a big deal. Five days of camping in the woods with over 100 of America's most dedicated Thaiboxers; living, breathing, eating, and training Muay Thai from seven in the morning to nine at night with the most successful Thai Boxing instructor in the world, Ajarn Surachai Sirisute.

It was third grade and I was running away from Richard, my bully. I cut through the portables hoping to lose him when I tripped and landed on a sharp rock. It cut into my knee and I let out a piercing scream--which let Richard know my whereabouts. He quickly ran over and starting kicking me in the ribs. I kept screaming and crying until a teacher stopped the beating.

You get kicked in the leg, punched in the face, and kneed in the gut. You limp around all day long and at night, you twitch. Oh, the love of Muay Thai makes us do crazy things.
