The TBA Newsletter is a periodical that we distribute to TBA members.  The interviews and articles listed below on this page are generally taken from the archives of the TBA Newsletter.

We got the idea for the TBA Newsletter in about 1990 after looking at some magazines from Japan that Yori Nakamura brought by the Inosanto Academy.  The Japanese martial arts press treats the martial arts with a lot of respect and gives ample space for details & analysis.  This is in contrast to the big American martial arts magazines which seem to use intra and inter-art controversy as a primary marketing strategy.  The TBA Newsletter, along with the excellent but short-lived FreeVoice, were conceived as alternatives to the mainstream American martial arts press that would promote the martial arts with the following goals:

  • To maintain a high degree of respect for the spirit of the martial arts and the leaders thereof
  • To provide recognition for the achievements of fighters, teachers and students
  • To avoid needless controversies that just drives people apart

The online version gives you a taste of what you'll receive if you sign up as a member in the TBA.  Many thanks go to people like Dave Rogers and Dean Lessi for their dedication and hard work in publishing the TBA Newsletter.  Pam Peterson is responsible for the great website for the TBA Newsletter.
